Halaqas, relational subjects, and revolutionary committees in Syria

Abstract Through an ethnographic account of Syrian halaqas (Sunni religious circles) from the 1980s until 2011 revolution, this article argues that have a revolutionary potential. The analysis demonstrates circles are spaces self-transformation heterotopic qualities. Darayya halaqa studied here is space where present and future collapsed: in which selves societies already enacted.
